2022 First Tracks

43% Petit Verdot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Syrah

95 Pts. jeb Dunnuck | $90

The 2022 First Tracks is a striking, Bordeaux-inspired blend built around our singular block of Petit Verdot, using an Abreu clone known for its compact clusters and deeply pigmented fruit. Late to ripen, the variety flourished in the 2022 vintage, offering profound depth, polish, and structure. Aged for 27 months in 78% new French oak, the wine benefits from extended time in barrel, allowing its firm tannins to relax into a layered, cohesive whole. Expect enveloping notes of crushed black plum, graphite, and sumac, with undertones of cedar, vanilla bean, and exotic spice. Cabernet Sauvignon adds backbone, framing and tight-knit tannins, with a cool thread of red-toned fruit. Syrah lends volume and a supple, mid-palate richness. The wine is commanding in presence yet finely detailed, with a finish that unfolds slowly and deliberately. First Tracks is built to evolve, destined for longevity and rewarding patience in the cellar. A powerful, cerebral blend that stands tall among the most age-worthy wines of the vintage.
